It is bright red, sweet, small, tasty and there is no possibility of eating only one!

The short cherry season is at its peak at the end of May, and it is a great time to enjoy all this red red at the “Cherry Forest” festival, where you can pick cherries in a unique agricultural setting, great for the whole family.

This year the festival will take place on 3 weekends: the last two Fridays of May, and Thursday (Isru Chag, Shavuot) June 1, 2017.

The days of the festival include three events for the whole family: Street, klezmer, art workshops, activity stands, climbing wall, omega and a farmers’ market, a happening in the cherry grove of Moshav Maon, and an agricultural experience at Har Sinai Farm, including baking workshops, Gibbon cheese, shepherding and petting zoo, photo opportunities and lots more!

Each year, the trees in Yatir produce about 50 tons of sweet red cherries, reknown for their wonderful taste and juiciness. This year, following the particularly cold winter, the trees are expected to yield even more, and everyone is invited to reach the Yatir region and take part in the joyful harvest celebration. The main species grown in the region are cherries and gudgens. One sour and the other sweet, and they appear in a variety of colors from deep red to light orange. Since the fruit needs a lot of cold in the winter season, it grows in the highlands of the country, and cherry groves at Yatir, 800 meters above sea level, are perfect for growing the beloved fruit.
